Obituaries
On April 18th, DaVonta LaShawn Walker was born at Rush Memorial Hospital in Meridian, MS. at 12:15 pm to Kashina Walker (Howard), and was preceded in death by Leotis Wesley. DaVonta was given back to Christ at the early age of 3 months old at Newell Chapel C.M.E. church under the leadership of Rev. Freeman Walker, Sr. (grandfather) DaVonta was later baptized at the age of twelve at Cornerstone Institutional Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Brodie Johnson. DaVonta would later become a lifelong member of Hill Chapel M.B. Church along with his family under the leadership of Pastor Robert E. Jones, I.
DaVonta attended East End Head Start in Meridian, MS. at age four, he then attended West End Elementary School in Meridian, MS. and later moved to Memphis, TN. To live with his mother (Kashina) and father (Maurice) at age 8. DaVonta would later attend Bruce Elementary, Shady Grove Elementary, M.A.S.E. Middle School and Craigmont High School where he played baseball until his knee injury, which would ultimately end his baseball career. DaVonta graduated from Craigmont High School with a 3.4 GPA. After high school, DaVonta wanted to experience the Midwest for a while with family. It was there DaVonta attended Ivy Tech Community College. DaVonta returned to Memphis, TN. after a year and a half of living in Indiana.
DaVonta loved spending time with friends and family. Most of all DaVonta loved to meditate and pursue God’s word and will. He had a zest for healthy living and loved working out in the gym. DaVonta was very business minded and wanted to start his own clothing line. DaVonta loved Vegan meals, but when DaVonta was too tired to cook the Vegan meals, he would simply just make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and call it a night. DaVonta was a die – hard New England Patriots fan! Go Patriots Nation!!
On October 6, 2024, at Memphis Regional One Hospital at 1:08 p.m., DaVonta took his last breath, but it was with a benevolent heart, DaVonta made the decision to donate his organs and help others to live a more resilient life.
DaVonta was preceded in death by Malachi Walker (son), Leotis Wesley, TaWanda Walker (aunt), Jessie and Earnest Clark (great grandparents), Giselle and Berlin Walker (great grandparents), Juanita and Robert Howard (grandparents) 2.
DaVonta leaves to cherish his memories his mother, Kashina Walker (Howard) of Atlanta, GA., Maurice Howard (Jemia) of Memphis, TN., brothers, Quintan Everett of Waynesboro, MS., Maurice “M.J.” Howard, II of Huntsville, AL., Chance Howard of Memphis, TN., DaVonta also leaves to cherish his memory Ka’Dejhia Walker (sister/cousin) of Memphis, TN., uncles Freeman Walker, Jr. of Madison, MS., and Lesley Patrick Walker of Meridian, MS., grandparents Rochell W. Lewis (Lee) of Collinsville, MS., Rev. Freeman Walker, Sr. (Shirley) of Gainesville, FL., 5 nieces, 1 nephew, a host of other aunts , uncles, cousins and friends.
DaVonta also leaves behind a very special love, Gabrielle Thomas.
