Obituaries
Evelyn (Evelina) Thomas was born on July 23, 1953, to Walter Theo Thomas and Martha Lou (Vaden) Thomas. She was baptized at age 12 at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church, in Benton Harbor, Michigan. She graduated from Benton Harbor high school in 1971 and went on to attend Parson ‘s Business College, where she graduated with a degree in secretarial science. She was hired by the Upjohn Pharmaceutical Company in Kalamazoo Michigan, where she met her husband Ronald Isaiah Towers. Ronald and Evelyn Towers gave birth to her first child Afiya, in 1976. In 1980 she became a member of Tabernacle Church of God Christ under Bishop Howard Thomas in Benton Harbor Michigan where she was the church secretary. In 1984 she went on to be blessed with Ezra, born to her union with Ezra Ferrell II. Lastly, she had Danielle, before relocating to Memphis Tennessee in 1992. In 2015 she returned home, to care for her father, Walter until his death in 2016. She returned to Memphis, Tennessee in 2019. In 2020 she had a major stroke & brain surgery but remained her lovable humorous self. She never met a stranger & always would go out of her way to help anyone in need. Evelina had many passions of them were gardening, teaching her family survival skills, sewing various arts & crafts, thrift shops. She loved spending time with her grandchildren. They were her biggest joys. She would convert her whole house into a classroom. She wrote them songs & taught them about God thru music. She was a very creative inventor with several projects at work before she fell ill. On July 28th she was called home at the age of 71.
She leaves behind her daughter Afiya Towers (Vincent), son Ezra Ferrell (Jaimie), daughter Danielle Thomas, Grandchildren; Carlton Towers, Chardn’a Benton, Ciera Holder, Journey Ferrell, Kelvin, Kelli, Kelton Thomas & two great grandchildren, Niece/daughter Nicole Williford.
Her brother, Beuford Thomas, Her sister, Eunice Fay Pruitt (Willard), A host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, family, friends and acquaintances, God-sister, Crystal Reid. Evelyn’s father, Walter Theo Thomas, mother, Martha Lou Vaden Thomas and stepmother, Lydia Walker Thomas, all preceded her in death.
