Obituary for Sam Means, Jr.
Sam Means, Jr., 93, died July 10, 2019.
Sam Means, Jr. was born January 4, 1926 in Dublin, Mississippi to the late Ina Mae and Sam Means Sr. He was the second child of nine born to this union. He was preceded in death by his siblings Ruthie Means White, Willie Means, Jessie Means, Florine Means Noah and Lillie Mae Dean. He departed this life on July 10, 2019 in Memphis, Tennessee after a long illness.
Sam was a devoted member of Norris Road Church of Christ. He was employed with Memphis Light Gas and Water Division for 30 years where his specialty was gas lines until he retired.
Sam has been married to Bertha Lee Means for over 63 years and to this union five sons and four daughters were born. One son, Rickie Means Sr. (Mary) preceded him in death. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and uncle.
Left to celebrate and remember his life are four daughters, Tina M. Alexander, Robin Means, Gloria J. Johnson and Jo A. Means; four sons, Samuel Means, III. (Linda), Willie J. Means (Bethany), Richard J. Means and Clifton D. Means (Courtney); three sisters, Louise Cooper (Otha), Florence Shaw (Larry), Pearlie Mae Herron. He also has a host of grand children, great-grand children, nieces and nephews.
