Obituary for Russell Michael Smith
Russell Michael Smith, 67, died July 9, 2017.
On April 22, 1950 God granted a male child given the name, Russell Michael Smith, to be born to the union of Gwendolyn Jean Bolden Smith and Lee Nell Smith (both of whom preceded him in death). Russell was one of the many children God allowed to replenish the earth in the year of 1950. In 2017, on July 9th he was called from a lengthy agonizing illness, Blessed with Death. (Revelations 14:13, Then I heard a voice from heaven say, “Write Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on, ”Yes, says the Spirit “they will rest from their labor, for their deeds will follow them. Russell grew to become a young man in Christ with understanding, he was guided and served as a member of the New Shelby MB Church until he was allowed to make his own decisions, he did otherwise as some young men do. He was a full pledge member of New Azusa Ministries.
He attended and graduated from Collierville Elementary and Mt. Pisgah High School. He also attended Tennessee State University in Nashville, Tennessee.
He grew into manhood which allowed him to become a Father. He fathered two children that served as his Caregivers during his time of illness, Adrian Dijuan Smith (Chandra) and Prudie Smith. He was an active Grandfather with his Grand-boys, Adrian Micah Smith and Tyler T. McKenzie.
He was employed by Bell South, now currently named AT&T for 35 years. He retired from the company in 2007. He was also employed by Federal Express after retirement for a short period of time.
Russell had one brother to precede him in death (Jeffrey Smith), a Step-Father (Glover Gilland) and a Step-Mother (Lorraine Leake Smith).
Russell leaves to Forever remember his Love and Ability to Express Himself Freely, his Children, Grandchildren, a Special Cousin, Jimmy Bolden, who served as a Co-Caregiver with his children; 5 Brothers, LaNell Smith (Marcus), Glover Gilland Jr. (Katina), James Curtis Gilland, Harold Smith (Emily) and Oscar Saines (Susan); 3 Sisters, Stacie Smith-Young (Phil), Faye Gilland and Gwendolyn Gina Gilland; 1 God-Grandson, Dantre’ D. Harris; Aunt Shirley Brown (Thomas), Aunt Laura Gosa (of Detroit); Uncle James Bolden; Many other Cousins, Nieces, Nephews, Friends and Neighbors,; and A Special Friend for many years, Kim Anderson (Angel).
