Robert Baker, Jr. (“Preacher”) was born on December 11, 1936, to the late Robert Baker, Sr. and Cora (Washington) Baker in Pace, Mississippi. He accepted Christ at an early age. Upon relocating to Memphis, TN, he became a member of Mt. Vernon Westwood, where his involvement included the choir, transportation, and youth athletics ministries. He continued his youth athletic involvement as a YMCA Youth Football Coach for several years.
Robert was blessed with his first child, a daughter, in 1957. He married Dilcy Lee McKinnie in 1959. That union brought two sons. He had an extensive career as a professional truck driver and retired in 1996. His hobbies included fishing, sports, minor auto mechanic work, and spending time with his grandchildren.
Robert leaves to cherish his memory his loving and devoted wife, Dilcy; daughter, Gloria Davis; two sons, Robert III and Audice; two sisters, Bernice Parker and Mary Baker. He was preceded in death by 2 brothers, 3 sisters and 1 grandson. A host of 12 grandchildren, 1 great-grandson, 1 great-great granddaughter, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends are left to continue his legacy.
