Rhonda Russell, age 65, died April 21, 2024.
Rhonda Russell was born Monday, October 6th, 1958, in Newark, New Jersey to parents Ronald and Odelia Garrett.The second of four children, she grew up in Plainfield, New Jersey and enjoyed a childhood filled with siblings and cousins she loved. She graduated from Plainfield High in 1976. Shortly after graduation, she joined the United States Air Force, where she was a jet engine mechanic. She was stationed at Mather Air Force Base in Rancho Cordova, California. In 1977, during her military service, she met her lifetime love, Darnell Russell. They married in 1981, and together, they had four children. After her military career, she worked for the United States Postal Service, where she medically retired in 1997. The family moved to Memphis, Tennessee in 1998. She devoted her life to her family. She was active in her children’s and grandchildren’s schools, sports, and social activities.
She is preceded in death by her mother, Odelia and father Ronald Sr. She is survived by sisters Priscilla Moore of North Carolina, Raynell Marshall of New Jersey, and brother Ronald Garrett, Jr of New Jersey. She is missed dearly by her beloved husband, Darnell Russell, of Memphis, Tennessee. Children: Toni Russell of Memphis, Tennessee. Karla andLindsey Russell of Los Angeles, California,and Darnell Russell Jr., of Memphis, Tennessee. Her grandchildren: Dekario,Alexis Smith, and Xavier Russell, of Memphis, Tennessee. She was overjoyed to become a great-grandmother to Canaila B. Richmond. She was called ‘Mom’, ‘Grandma’, ‘Auntie’, and ‘Tete’ by many over the decades and is irreplaceable in our world.
