Obituaries
On a mild and sunny fall day, Regina H. Braxton was born to Tommy and Ruth Marie Marshall Braxton. It was a Friday, the day after Thanksgiving and one month before Christmas, 1949. Regina was the sixth child of Tommy and Marie. She was also the sixth grandchild of Eldred and Florida Buckner Marshall. Her arrival during the holiday season brought added festivity to the family. The sovereign providence of the God of our fathers brought Regina into the world. Regina accepted Christ at an early age in Greenville, Mississippi and later united with Hunter Avenue Baptist church where her uncle Rev. LeRoy Butler pastored. Regina served on the Mother Board as the uniform coordinator and was an active participant in bible study and Sunday School. His sovereign providence kept her in this world and now His sovereign providence has called her out of this world to Himself.
Regina was the sixth child of Tommy and Marie. She was also the sixth grandchild of Eldred and Florida Buckner Marshall. Regina was mild tempered, adventurous, strong, and determined. After completion of high school, Regina moved to Portland, Oregon and received a certification in Business Office Management. Regina started her career in Human Resources and Payroll. Regina moved back to Memphis, Tennessee and accepted a position with the Federal Government at the Defense Depot. Regina soon fell in love with her long-time neighbor David Gwinn Sr. and they on June 27, 1975. To this union two children were born, and a lifetime of fond family memories were created.
Even in decreasing health, Regina knew that the God of our fathers would never leave her nor forsake her. She was the daughter of a woman who in the face of every trial, triumphantly declared, “My God is bigger than this!” and now because of Him who is Resurrection and Life, death is swallowed up in victory for Regina.
Regina was preceded in death by her parents and siblings Delores Braxton Shipp, Wedel Braxton, Terry Braxton, and Kenneth Braxton. She leaves to cherish her memories: a loving husband David Gwinn Sr, son David Gwinn Jr. (Cherryl), daughter Patricia Anthony (Jerry); grandchildren Adaliss Anthony, Dawn Gwinn, Alex Anthony, D’Arcy Deveaux and Alyssia Deveaux; siblings Tommie Braxton, Lester Braxton, Wendell Braxton, Aaron Braxton, Marketa Williams (James), Janice White (Garfield), Augusta Greene, Waymon Swift, Ezell Gwinn (Alberta), J.D Swift (Rebecca), Betty Robinson (James); and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other loved ones.
Family be encouraged to know that the God of our Fathers has conquered sin and death through Christ for us. It is our faith in Christ that gives us the victory over sin and death and makes it possible for us to see our departed loved ones again. May the Spirit of Him who raised Christ from the dead comfort us in this during our time of sorrow.
