Obituaries
Rev. Hassell was born March 30, 1947 in Tennessee to the late Richard A. Hassell and the late Martha Bowen Hassell. Along with his family are people he loved throughout the Church and community and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was a 1965 graduate of Hamilton High School and attended Memphis State University and served the church in numerous capacities in Georgia, Texas, Tennessee and Alabama. Rev. Hassell was an ordained elder in Full Connection in the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church. He served as Presiding Elder of the Montgomery-Phenix City-Opelika District since July 2010. During this time, he also served as pastor of Oak Grove C.M.E. Church in Davidson. AL and Mt. Zion C.M.E. Church in Smiths Station, AL.
He leaves his beloved wife, Carolyn, three sons, Randall, Brent (Trishana) and Marcus, two sisters, Mary H. Yancy (Luke), Valerie H. Scott (Clarence), one brother, Rev. Victor M. Hassell (Priscilla); three grandchildren, Kendall, Jelani and Brynn.
Visitation is Wednesday, May 20, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Serenity Funeral Home, 1638 Sycamore View Rd., Memphis, TN 38134.
Life Celebration at Greenwood CME Church, 3311 Kimball Ave. on Thursday, May 21 at 11 a.m. Bishop Teresa Snorton, officiating.
Committal Services with Military Honors at 10:00 a.m., Friday, May 22, 2015 in West Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery. .
