Milagros Rodriguez, Age 82, Passed January 19, 2024.
Milagros Dolores Boada Y La Nuez Rodriguez was born November 14, 1941 in Havana, Cuba to parents Pura La Nuez Y Diaz and Florencio Boada Y Junco. This young farm girl would eventually leave the island of her birth, as well as her family all that she had ever known to marry the love of her life joining him in pursuit of freedom in the United States of America. She would travel the world with her husband, Luis Manuel Rodriguez, a professional boxing Hall of Famer and former Welterweight champion of the world, who proceeded her in death in 1996. Milagros would become part of a vibrant Cuban community in Miami, Florida were she spent most of her life for years to come.
She was a talented designer and seamstress in her early years, a graduate of the Instituto Nacional de Corte y Costura Alemany in Cuba. In her later years, Milagros was a dedicated and compassionate healthcare worker at Jackson General Memorial Hospital, formerly Human Resources Health Center. She treated all that she cared for with dignity and respect.
She was a devout Catholic, her faith was the cornerstone of her life. During her time in Miami, Milagros was diligent in her attendance to her local parish, Corpus Christi Catholic Church. She enjoyed dancing, especially to her native Cuban music. She had a passion for exercise and yoga. She also had a great love of all things fashion, her favorite were high heeled shoes.
In 2020 the global pandemic prompted her relocation to Tennessee to join her son and grandson, where she resided until her untimely passing on January 19, 2024. Above all that she enjoyed in life, she valued most her role as mother to her only child, Luis Rodriguez. Milagros was also a loving grandmother to her only grandson, Alex. She encouraged both to take advantage of the opportunities that life in America afforded them as citizens. Milagros knew all too well the limitations she had experienced in her native Cuba, after all her son was the first in the family ever born in the United States of America. She sacrificed a great deal to get here in search of a better life for generations that would come after her.
She is survived by her son, Luis ( Justine Crews Rodriguez) and grandson, Luis Alexander Crews Rodriguez. She leaves a sister Yolanda Boada La Nuez of Havana Cuba. 3 sisters in law, Marcia Rodriguez Angulo, Clara Valdez, and Julia Estelle Gomez all of Miami, FL. A host of nieces, Marcia Jones, Miriam Beras, Veronica Casely, Yolanda Valdez and nephews. Extended in-laws the Crews and Hill family, which were her village during her time in Memphis.
