She had ten siblings and is survived by three; Hattie Lee Mead, Joe and Eugene Harper. She was a homemaker and professional seamstress and sewed for several renowned and successful celebrities and politicians. she was a longtime and active member of Saint Augustine Catholic Church and a convert from Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church where she was an Usher. She was a staunch supporter and Life Member of the NAACP, where she won several local and national awards for her service, reaching the highest membership status. she was a Community Activist and Civil Rights Icon who campaigned for and supported numerous successful and prominent local, state and national elected officials. She will be greatly missed by her two surviving children, sister, two brothers, seven grandchildren, six great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Visitation will be held on Friday, February 6 from 4-6 p.m. at Serenity Funeral Home, 1638 Sycamore View Road, Memphis, TN 38134. Services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 7, 2015 at St. Augustine Catholic Church, 1169 Kerr Ave., Memphis, TN 38106. Burial in Forest Hill Cemetery-Midtown, 1661 South Elvis Presley Boulevard, 38106. The family request that any memorials be sent to The NAACP, Memphis Chapter or Saint Augustine Catholic Church, Memphis, TN.
