Malcolm Wheeler, Jr., Age 88, Died January 10, 2024.
Malcolm Cornef Wheeler Jr. was born in Elkton Tennessee, on September 21, 1935 to Rachel and Malcolm Wheeler Sr. He was the youngest of three children, sister Doris W. Winfield nee Wheeler and brother Ira Lee. His parents, brother and sister preceded Malcolm in death.
He was raised on a farm in rural Tennessee during a time of national uncertainty, but under the guidance of his loving parents and siblings he grew into a fine young man. He eventually moved to Indianapolis and then Chicago as he began working for North Central Airlines which merged with Republic Airlines, Republic Airlines in turn merged with Northwest Airlines. Malcolm remained with Northwest Airlines until retirement in 2000.
Malcolm was preceded in death by his first wife Jacqueline Wheeler to whom he was married for 16 years and his great grandchild Seven. He was introduced to Diana by his sister Doris, 39 years ago, they were married for 38 years and traveled the world together. He was a dedicated stepfather to her three kids. A father figure who was always present and accounted for in their lives. He provided a firm, loving guiding hand and was a force for positivity to all who he met.
For many years he entertained his coworkers with an annual barbeque that rivaled those put on by professionals. The barbeque became a can’t miss occasion as Malcolm was a master griller. Even the children looked forward to Grandpa’s annual food fest!
Malcolm was a great family man who loved his family unconditionally. He was always available in our moments of need, with gentle and effective counsel. He was a rock upon whose shoulders we stood, and he enabled us to see that wonderful things were possible when you work hard.
Malcolm leaves behind his wife Diana, stepchildren Chris, Azez and Angeleta. Grandchildren Christopher, Andrew BJ, Destiny, Bryson and Amaya, and great grandchildren Zoe, Cameron, Clover, Chozen and Alana. His extended family includes many nieces, nephews and cousins.
