Obituaries
Ludetha Austin was the oldest of four daughters born on October 17, 1929 to Ned and Mattie Taylor in Como, Mississippi. She received God at an early age in Mississippi where she was baptized in a lake.
Ludetha moved to Memphis with her parents to attend Booker T Washington High School from which she graduated in 1950. She also met Nathaniel Austin that year and was united in matrimony on July 10, 1951, which lasted 42 beautiful, blessed years until Nathaniel’s death. From this union four children were born that she nurtured into adulthood.
In 1989, Ludetha enrolled at Lemoyne Owen College where she earned a certificate to be an assistant teacher. She was a loving woman who nurtured and adored many children. She loved being able to care for children and she especially adored being able to witness the growth that students would make on their journey throughout the school year. She remained in the school system until retirement 12 years later at the age of 72.
Ludetha was a faithful member at Christ Temple Church at Christ Holiness for 15 years before becoming one of the founders of First Church of Christ (Hol.) USA in West Memphis, Arkansas in October of 1972, and remained a faithful member for the next 48 years. Although a quiet and sweet spirited woman she managed to voice her opinion on many church matters during her time of service. As a strong and devoted follower of God, Ludetha made it her mission to be a part of as many positions in the church as she could. She was a Deaconess, a Trustee, a Board Member, and a member of the United Christian Woman’s Ministries. Ludetha was known throughout the District, Diocese and National Conventions of COCHUSA and loved travelling to attend those conventions. She was an active member of the Obituary Committee. Sis. Ludetha Austin was loved dearly and will sincerely be missed by her family and friends.
Ludetha was told, job well done and went home to rest in God’s loving arms on February 2, 2020. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, her mother and father, and a sister, Beatrice. Her memory is cherished by her sons Nathaniel (Fannie), Alfred (Sharon) and two daughters Rita (Thomas), and Cherlyn. Also left to mourn her is two sisters, Pearl and Ruthie. She also leaves a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, church members, and friends. Thank you, God, for allowing us to share your angel.
