Obituaries
Leon Gray was born on February 22, 1959, to the loving union of Leon Gray, Sr. and Minnie Bond-Gray who preceded him in death. On Friday June 11, 2021, he ended this life at 1:07 pm at Methodist Hospital in Germantown, Tennessee, surrounded by family.
Leon was a man of “many” words. Wherever he worked, his voice was heard. He was an instrumental force at home, church and in the community. He served as Special Assistant to Judge Dan Michael of Shelby County Juvenile Court, Legislative Specialist at the Shelby County Board of Commissioners, a former television reporter at iHeartMedia, Inc. and Music Director/On-Air personality at Clear Channel in Houston, TX. He studied and received his graduate degree from Union University in Jackson, TN and was a proud alumnus from Manassas High School (Home of the Tigers!), which was Memphis’ first accredited high school for African-Americans.
Leon leaves to cherish loving memories: Sherry J. Walker-Gray, one daughter Nickesha Sanders; four sons: Leon Gray, III, Brian David DuPont-Gray, Joshua Noel Gray and Jordan Nicholas Gray, a sister, Amelia Mattix, a niece, Karmelia Mattix and a host of relatives and close friends.
