Obituary for Joseph Bernard
Joseph Bernard, 84, died September 27, 2016.
Joseph Bernard was born to the late Rosa Lee Burns and James “Jimmie” Bernard on August 13, 1932 in Henning, Tennessee. He accepted Christ at an early age at St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church in Bailey, TN.
After working in various areas, he enjoyed a distinguished career. First serving our country during wartime (Korean War), and then as a barge worker in manufacturing at River Cement Company, from which he retired in 1996.
All throughout his life, he was considered “Mr. Fix it.” He loved to work with his hands and could fix, repair, or replace anything, but his primarily love was working on cars as a mechanic.
Upon retirement, he developed a passion for his lawn. And was extremely proud of the praise he received for his meticulous yard work.
He departed this life on September 27, 2016 at St; Francis Bartlett surrounded by his children. He leaves behind to cherish his memory a wife, Ella Louis; son, Joseph (Doris) Bernard; son, Cris Bernard; son, Mark (Tabitha) Bernard; son, Greg Bernard; son, Kenneth (Kimberly) Bernard; daughter, Tonya Bernard; daughter, Sylvia (Isaac) Jordon-Griffin; daughter, Linda (Doug) Green; daughter, Wanda (Kevin) Simms; 19 grandchildren, Jullian, Johnathan, DeShawn, Roy, Juacall, Joshua, Jeffrey, Jarvis, Gabrial, Jerell, Jevon, Jaden, Kenneth Jr., Kyla, Kalynn (Larry) Doss, Caleb, Jessica, Justin, Jamie, 4 great grand children, Jarret, Jordan, Jeremiah, and Emmanuel all whom he loved dearly; brother, Thomas; sisters Carrie and Rose Marie, and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m., Tuesday, October 4th at Serenity Funeral Home, 1638 Sycamore View Road, Memphis, TN 38134. Funeral Service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 5th at Brown Baptist Church, 980 Stateline Road East, Southaven, MS 38671. Burial will be at West Tennessee Veterans Cemetery, October 5th at 1:15 p.m.
