Obituary for Johnetta Blakney
Johnetta Wafford Blakney was born in Memphis, TN, on December 10, 1946 to the late Leon and Beatrice Wafford.
She attended Carnes Elementary School. She graduated from Manassas High School in 1964.
She was united in holy matrimony to Lawrence Blakney on November 17, 1966
To this union one child was born, Janet Blakney Williams.
She accepted Christ at an early age at Lane Avenue Baptist Church, under the leadership of Rev. Williams. She later attended The Old Landmark COGIC Pentecostal Holiness.
Johnetta was employed for many years in the medical field at Baptist Hospital, St. Francis Hospital and Lakeside Hospital …………
Johnetta made her transition on Sunday, April 12, 2015 at Methodist Hospital South.
She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Leon and Beatrice Wafford; two brothers, Randy Wafford and Ricky Wafford and two sisters, Lisa Wafford Bibbs and Donna Wafford.
She leaves to cherish her memory: her husband of 48 years, Lawrence H. Blakney, one daughter, Janet Blakney Williams (Dobby), three grandchildren; Bradley L. Williams, Brandi M. Williams and Kimberly N. Williams; one sister, Leona Horton (Freddie), two brothers, Jackie Wafford and Barry Wafford; one aunt, Nell Robinson; three brothers-in-law; Roy Blakney, Lewis Blakney (Margret), and Alvin Bibbs.
She also leaves to cherish her memory a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, April 17, 2015 at Serenity Funeral Home. Services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 18, 2015 at Old Land Mark Church, 1490 Hollywood St., Memphis, TN 38109.
