Obituary for John Henry Peete
John Henry Peete, age 64, passed away on September 30, 2014.

John Henry Peete was born February 4, 1950, in Memphis, Tennessee. His birth brought great joy to his parents, Ida May and Mark Peete, who instilled in their only son a love of people and a passion for living life to its fullest. As a young child, through adulthood, John enjoyed the love and affection of his sister, Louise and his older sister, Fannie Peete, who preceded him in death.
John was baptized at New Salem Baptist Church at the age of twelve. He was a 1968 graduate of Lester High School. Following graduation, John was employed at Ivers and Pond Piano Company for a number of years. John was employed as a truck driver for a brief period. He relocated to Landover, Maryland, and was employed as a supervisor for the District of Columbia Utilities until his retirement in 2005. While in Landover, Maryland, he attended First Baptist Church Landover.

John was a car enthusiast from an early age. At the age of sixteen, his father gave him his first car and the journey began. He was extremely meticulous when it came to maintaining his antique cars. In addition, John was a great cook.

He was a gentle but quiet “giant” who always had a smile. He fought his illness for over seven years, never complaining. He made his transition at 3:00 a.m., on Tuesday, September 30, 2014, at Methodist Hospice Hospital with his wife and family by his side.

John and Dorothy rekindled their high school love and were married in 2001 as best friends from childhood and life partners. They shared an extra special love. John was the proud father of two children, Brandon Peete and Anita Matthews.

John leaves to cherish his memory: his devoted wife, Dorothy; his sister, Louise Walls; his son, Brandon Peete (Tameika); his daughter, Anita Matthews (Ceyun); his step-daughter, Fashell Martin; his god-son, Tarvis Milam (Jazmin), and his aunt and uncle, Elma and James O’Bannon, all of Memphis, Tennessee; nine grandchildren, Chasity, Johnterio, Brandon, Jr., Kiante, Kennedy, Christian, Bria, Brennen, and Taylor; his special little niece, Miracle Allen; his dedicated caregiver and cousin, Mrs. Ruthie Brown; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held from 4-7p.m. on Friday, October 3rd, 2014 at Harold Ford Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will be conducted at 12:00 noon on Saturday, October 4th, 2014 at Harold Ford Funeral Chapel, 1638 Sycamore View Rd., Memphis, TN 38134, Tel. (901) 379-0861.
