Obituary for Jessie Lamour Bland
Jessie Lamour Bland, age 69, passed away on October 3, 2014.
Jessie L. Bland, Sr. was born in Batesville, MS to Lodia Rebecca Bland and Robert Rose on November 28, 1944.
After gazing the lily fields of Batesville, his family journeyed for the bright lights of the big city and moved to Chicago, IL. where he was raised and also educated through the Chicago School System. After completing general studies, it is impossible to calculate the long hours of physical labor through his employment at Gits Brothers (Chicago), FedEx (Memphis), and Technicolor (Memphis) where he retired in 2010.
While in Chicago, he mesmerized Ernestine Miller, who he later married on January 6, 1966. To this union, one child was born; LaTonya Michelle. After several years of marital bliss, they decided to pursue life separately.
As a single man with charismatic ways, smooth conversation, and unlimited charm....Jessie's bachelor status ended when he wooed the likes of Debra Bowens by sharing her hand in marriage in the Spring of 1985 (Debra preceded him in death). To this union one child was born; Jessie L. Bland, Jr.
Jessie loved all people like the blended colors of a rainbow giving his last to whomever asked. His debonair style could grace the cover of GQ and his smile bright as the moon at night. His voice was even-toned, pleasant, and smooth like the sounds of a harp. His kindness was Christ like as he stepped into the role as a man that he was not prepared for as a child. He was simply extraordinary!
Although he confessed his life in Christ at an early age, God tight cast his life to fill the role of a Saint as a member of the New Salem Baptist Church in Memphis, TN.
On Friday, October 3, 2014, God used Jessie's life as a canvas of which he painted the most intimate relationship and a blueprint of how a man of God should spotlight his name. He answered to the call of God's voice and accepted his VIP invitation to Heaven's Gates.
He leaves his warm memories in the heart of his four children: LaTonya (Derrick) Floyd of Ackerman, MS., Tressa Kennedy of Memphis, TN., Jessie L. Bland, Jr. of Chicago, IL., and Jessika (Asa) Harris of Springfield, IL.; Six brothers: Wayne (Gloria) Bland of Bolingbrook, IL., Willie (Barbara) Bland of Chicago, IL., Robert Jr. (Josephine) Rose, Hubert Rose, Willie Rose, Kendall Rose all of Memphis, TN.; Eight sisters: Justine Bland and Betty Gobbins of Chicago, IL., Maxine Nichols of Chicago, IL., Louise (Harvey) Kearney, Clara (Harper) Blount, Margaret (Earnest) Butler, Pamela Rose, and Joyce (Eddie) Jones all of Memphis, TN. Six grandchildren: Malaysia Kennedy, Derrick Floyd Jr., Jania Harris, Justin Harris, Asiyah Harris, and Tremeere Bland. A host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. A special daughter: Shalonda Stribling of Bartlett TN.
His parents: Lodie Rebecca Bland and Robert Rose, Sr., four sisters: Vera Bland, and Francis Bland of Chicago, IL. and Alma Rose of Memphis, TN, one brother: John (Eva Kay) Rose of Memphis, TN. preceded Jessie in death.
Memorial Services will be conducted at 12:00 noon on Saturday, October 11, 2014 at Serenity Funeral Home, 1638 Sycamore View Rd., Memphis, TN 38134.
Arrangements by Serenity Funeral Home and Cremation Society, 1632 Sycamore View Rd., Memphis, TN 38134, Tel. (901) 377-3543
