James was a 1977 graduate of Fairley High School and was known for his drum major skills in band and his beautiful singing voice, and is also where he developed his sense of style. After graduation, he joined the Army where he served 6 years, which included a tour in Germany. After completing his service he then toured with his sister as a background singer for her band.
Known for his dress and his flair for men fashion, James knew how to create the “Classic Man” and had dressed many prominent leaders and clergy in the city. His career in clothing landed him a position in North Carolina for 3 years, but he had recently moved back to Memphis to be closer to his family.
James made his transition on October 29, 2018 and he and his “infectious laugh”, will be greatly missed by his daughter, Natasha Ward, a granddaughter, Skyler Miller, his father Rev. James L.
