Obituary for James Edward Winfrey
James Edward Winfrey, 70, died January 25, 2020.
James Edward Winfrey Sr. was born on February 25, 1949 to the late Sammie Lee Griffin and Eula Mae Winfrey.
James was a graduate of Melrose High School. He accepted Christ at an early age. He was a faithful member of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, under the leadership of Pastor Melvin Lee, which whom is also a very special childhood friend. At the age of 19, he left Memphis to reside in Buffalo, New York for 30 years. His favorite job was being a cab driver, which he owned his own cab in New York. He later retired as a construction worker in Memphis, TN. In his later years he loved to spread the gospel of the Lord, playing golf and helping other’s within the community.
He received his wings on Saturday, January 25, 2020 at the age of 70. He is predeceased by Leslie Winfrey, Nathenial Hall and Sammie Earl Griffin.
James leaves to cherish his memories a loving wife, Sue Winfrey; his children, Nori (Larry) Yates, Lori Valentine, Patrina Henderson, Candice Winfrey, Brittany (Willis) White, James Winfrey, DeMario Winfrey; 13 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren; His sisters and brothers, Rochester (Helen) Winfrey, Donna Burtwell, Flora Barnes, Dana (Buster) Townsend, Jewel (Leroy) Goff, Al (Lisa) Griffin, Helen (Huston) Turner and Barbara Griffin. He also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends that loved him dearly.
