Obituaries
A godly life ended January 16, 2021 when Hugh Darryl was taken from us. Born August 27, 1966 to Bobbie and the late Hugh L. Mitchell, he was the second of two children. Hugh accepted Christ at an early age under the leadership of Reverend H. J. Thompson at the Oakville M. B. Church.
Hugh grew up in Bethel grove and graduated from Wooddale High School in 1984 where he played football and ran track. After high school, he joined the Marines and served four years in the reserves.
Hugh was active in church as a child and adult. He was a member of Sunday School, Youth Choir and Junior Deacon Board, Male choir, Deacon Board and Sunday School.
He thoroughly cooking, singing and playing dominos. He was a devoted Dallas Cowboy football fan, Memphis Tiger basketball fan and Atlanta Braves baseball fan. Hugh loved to sing and would sing karaoke and play dominos late into the night.
His cooking led him to opening several restaurants for Corky’s Barbeque and managing other restaurants (IHOP, Barneshill). Hugh was also an entrepreneur, operating a mobile car detailing business, owner operator of an 18-wheeler. He was a kind hearted, gentle and respectful person. Even until death he was always concerned for others.
As we knew Hugh suffered, we also know he is at rest with our heavenly Father. After so much suffering the Lord took from him all pain and took him unto Himself.
There are three steps to heaven- out of self; into Christ; into Glory. Hugh took these first two steps in life and lived a beautiful life in Christ. Now he has taken the third step where there is no more weeping, no pain, no sorrow, no disappointment. We know he is satisfied now and that he is reaping his great reward reserved for the faithful.
He now has fulfilled that purpose and as his friends and family, though we may weep awhile, are rejoicing with him, and thanking our Heavenly Father for the life he lived among us, and for taking him to the land of Glory.
Hugh leaves to cherish his precious memories a decorated mother, Bobbie Mitchell; sister, Jacqueline Hunn (Arnold); one nephew, Jaleen White; wife, Vanessa Mitchell; two step children, Marsheka Suttles and Trey Suttles; eight aunts, Maggie Ellis, Mae Bobbie Poole, India Conrad, Mamie Jackson, Myrtle Thompson, Deloris Westbrooks (Joe) and Hazel Malone (Morris) uncle Charlie Conrad and a host of cousins and other relatives and friends.
