REFLECTIONS OF LIFE
HELEN RUTH NELSON
Helen R. Nelson was born August 12,1938, she was proceeded in death by her parents, Spencer Sims and May Helen Sims (Allen), in Memphis, TN.
She accepted Christ as her Lord& Savior and baptized at an early age. After graduating from Barrett’s Chapel High School in 1957, she united in Holy Matrimony to
A. D. Nelson. For several years, they lived in Millington, TN. surrounded by loving family and friends. Upon moving to Memphis, TN, she worked at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital for thirty years until her retirement. Helen joined St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church, and served as a choir member. She later moved her membership to Grace Bible Baptist Church where she served as a member of the Mother Board until her death.
Helen was a Christian wife and mother that was energetic and loved to have fun.
Helen was a loving neighbor and cherished her caring relationships with The Benton’s, The Tucker’s, The Catron’s, and The Westbrook’s families.
Helen R. Nelson departed this life on Monday August 9th, 2021, with her husband and daughters by her side. She leaves to mourn and cherish her memories, her devoted husband, A.D. Nelson of sixty-four years, her daughters, Sandra Brown (Greg/deceased), Paula Mays (Wayne), and Toya Johnson (David) and stepson Anthony Phillips. She leaves three surviving sisters: Lila Walker of Hampton, SC, Gloria Thompson (Michael) of Culver City, CA, M. Pamela Thompson (Rickie) of Hyde Park, MA, three sisters proceeded her in death: Annelle Hill, Ervene Woodberry, and Alma Harris. She also leaves her adored grand-children: nine granddaughters, two grandsons, 10 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Acknowledgements
Kindness, concern, and thoughtfulness are Christian virtues expressed in many ways by sincere friends. The family of Helen R. Nelson is eternally grateful for all the expressions of friendship and love shown during her illness and passing.
A special thank you to Helen’s best friend, Irene Tucker and her family for constant prayer, compassion, love, and generosity. Wayne Mays Sr. and M. Pamela Thompson for their extensive love and support during this difficult time.
Such expressions have been pillars of strength. May God bless each of you in his divine way.
