Mrs. Hazel Lee Boyd-Childs was born in Steele, Missouri in Pemiscot County. Hazel is the third child of 14 children born to her father Earnest and Minnie Lou Boyd who precedes her in death.
She married Sam Earl Childs, who precedes her in death, in Gobler, Missouri in 1952. Hazel was a devoted wife, mother, sister, and friend. She traveled with her husband to all his Air Force assignments. Including postings in Newfoundland (Canada), Blytheville AFB, (Arkansas), Suffolk County AFB (New York}, Kelly AFB, (Texas}, Clark Airfield (Philippines), Incirlik Airfield, (Turkey) and Scott Air Force Base (Illinois) where Sam retired. Together they made their home in various places California, Colorado, and Mid-Missouri, settling in Memphis, TN. During the military travels Hazel gave birth to six children, all of whom she loved deeply: Beverly, Sandra, Anthony, Eric, Karl and Terri. Beverly, Karl and Terri live in Memphis, Eric lives in Garland, Texas and Sandra lives in Atlanta, GA.
Later in life Hazel fulfilled a life-long dream of becoming a nurse, dedicating herself to caring for others until age 66. Hazel was a Believer. She was passionate, loving and kind to all her family and everyone she met along the way. She is survived by her siblings Mrs. Virginia Vinson, and Edwin Boyd of Fort Wayne Indiana, and brothers, Al, Fred, Louis and Theotis, of Denver, Colorado. She was preceded in death by siblings, Florida, Rosie, Ernest, Roosevelt, James, Clifford and Dorothy. She also loved and left many, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was a proud grandmother of the following grandchildren: Rodney, Mark, Julian (precedes her in death), Donielle, Sasha, EJ, Nicole, Patrice, Shane, Shannon, Demarcus, Anthony, Hassan, Jabril, Khamil, Arthur, Ajayla, Stacey, and Curtis Jr.
Her Great grandchildren: Jacquille, Devin, Tariq, Khari, Zori, Qierra, Maliki, Cameron, Matai, Patience, Dajera, Ephraim, Olivia, Faith, Kane, Owen, Laura, Elle, Toni, Teagan, Dominiq, Emerald, Ricky, Anthony, Ariana, Alexis, Adonia, Athena, King, Aiden, Mckenzie, Tony, and Alyiah. Hazel’s great- great grandchildren: London, Phoenix Rose, Kahlani, Winter, and Madison.
She loved all children, nature and animals. As a matter of fact, she never met an adult, child or dog she wouldn’t feed and comfort.
Hazel Childs will be forever remembered by those who knew and loved her as being honorable, charitable, supportive, reliable, and showing sacrificial love to everyone, very much like our Lord, Savior and God, Jesus Christ.
