Obituary for Gerald Johnson
Memorial Services were held for Gerald Johnson of Germantown, Tennessee who passed away at the Baptist Memorial Hospital of Memphis on August 1, 2017, after a brief illness. He was born on February 15, 1937, in Welsh, LA, and was the son of Helen and R.O. Richards of Collinston, LA. He attended school in Collinston, and was a member of Reily Memorial Methodist Church, where he gave his life to Jesus Christ very early in his childhood, and where he always looked forward to visiting whenever he returned to Morehouse Parish. Mr. Johnson was an Air Force veteran; he had a long and productive career in Construction Management in the gas and oil, petro chemical and food and beverage processing industries.
He leaves his wife Marilyn of 51 years, one daughter, Gerilyn; and granddaughter, Stephanie, all of Germantown, TN; a sister and family, Patricia Lockwood, of Houma, LA; his mother-in-law, Mary Faulkenbury of Mer Rouge; nephews and families, Jeffrey Lockwood of Gomer, Alaska, and Keith, Jesse, and Vince Faulkenbury of Bastrop; niece and family, Jana Cannon, of Bastrop; aunts and families of Jeanette Manuel of Sulphur, LA, Ruth Johnson of Iowa, and Edith LeJerne of Pine Island, LA; the mother of his granddaughter, Tonya Evans, of Monroe, LA; and Goddaughter Ashley Nicole. He was preceded in death by his parents, his only son, Darren Johnson, and father-in-law (who was like a father), Dewey Faulkenbury.
Gerald was known for his generosity to school children and the homeless. When he heard the words “in need,” he willfully responded. There were children who had Christmas presents, uniforms, and school field trips paid for who may not otherwise have had. There will surely be some homeless people who will continue to wait and watch for him to pass by - for a friendly smile, a lunch, coats, shoes, or possibly a ride to a medical facility or a shelter to visit a loved one. He will be greatly missed by his loving family. He was laid to rest in Memorial Park Cemetery in Bastrop, LA.
