Estella Mae Green was born December 17, 1935 in Eads, Tennessee. She was the
5th child of Willie Mae Mitchell. She was predeceased by her mother, her father,
James Durham, and her beloved stepfather, Robert Mitchell. She attended school
in Memphis and graduated from Booker T. Washington High School. Estella
started her career in food manufacturing at an early age. She was not only the first
Black employee, but also the first employee hired on the line at Kellogg’s
Memphis Plant. In the middle of this career she moved to Los Angeles,
California, years later retiring from Alpha Beta Bakery and returning home to
Memphis.
As a later matriarch of the family, Estella was loved and cherished by many. She
leaves one daughter, Rosalyn Venice Love (Delbert Love), one grandson, Elliot
Joseph Love, one great grand-daughter, Leila Ariani Love, and stepson Gregory
Green. She was also predeceased by her sisters, Mary Catherine Durham, Oretha
Nichols, Bobbie Sankey, Dorothy Baptist, Darlene Durham-Keith and brother
Clyde Braswell. She will also be missed by a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
She will be laid to rest at Elmwood Cemetery in Memphis, Tennessee.
Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not
be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.
