Clara Mebane was born December 11, 1934, to the late Mary and George Williams in rural Eads, TN. She was the middle child, and her siblings included an older brother George, sister Flonnie, and youngest sister Margaret.
Clara was married to Samuel Mebane (who preceded her in death) and to this union, four children were born, Cynthia, Samuel, Jr., Reginald, and Stephanie. She retired from Methodist Hospital Germantown in 2011, where she worked for over 16 years in the food service division. She was well known to all the employees at Methodist who lovingly called her “Miss Clara.” Prior to joining Methodist, she served as the food service director at Memphis Theological Seminary for many years. She started her career in food services at St. Joseph Hospital where she worked in the cafeteria and was later promoted to head cashier.
At an early age, Clara professed her faith in Christ and joined Columbus Baptist Church, in Memphis, TN. She later joined Olivet Baptist Church, with her family under the leadership of the late Reverend Kenneth T. Whalum, Sr. where she went on to serve faithfully for over 25 years.
To cherish her legacy of love, she leaves: her four children, Cynthia (Charles), Samuel, Jr. (Velma), Reginald (LaRhonda), Stephanie (Stanley). In addition, she leaves nine grandchildren, Stanley, II, Kevin, Kimberly, Stacey, Lindsey and Mallory, and more; as well, several great-grandchildren, Kyla and Kendall who will be encouraged by her strength, charitable heart, resilience, and love. We shall be comforted by her legacy and love for her family; her courage and strength, and forever inspired by her example.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be sent to Le Bonheur Children's Hospital, 848 Adams Avenue, Memphis, TN 38103
