Obituaries
Ms. Christine Alice Crawford was born in Memphis, Tennessee on September 28, 1927. She was one of two daughters born to Eddie and Alice Foster. Christine gave her life to Christ as an early age and attended St. Augustine’s Catholic Church. She also attended St. Augustine’s School and this is where she met her future husband, Sanverneado Crawford Jr. She attended Lemoyne Owen College for a couple of years before enrolling in nursing school where she graduated as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) and went to work at the City of Memphis Hospital, then called the John Gaston Hospital, and later renamed the Regional Medical Center. Her nursing career there lasted 38 years and she was given many citations, accommodations and awards for her outstanding contributions and tireless dedication to her patients. She retired from the Regional Medical Center after devoting a total of 38 years to nursing.
Her marriage to Sanverneado Crawford Jr. produced three children, a daughter, Janet Elizabeth Woods, who preceded her death in 1998; a son, Sanverneado III, and another daughter, Tina Marie.
As a mother, she selflessly dedicated her life towards being a nurturing and loving mother. When not spending time with her children, she loved to spend time in the yard, and she could often be seen working in her yard wearing her trademark wide-brimmed straw hat. The remainder of Christine’s time was devoted to spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who she lavished attention on, and showered them with much love, direction and devotion.
Besides her daughter, Janet Elizabeth of Memphis, preceding her in death, her sister, Gloria Woods, of Memphis, also preceded her in death. She leaves to mourn her passing her son, Sanverneado Crawford III and her daughter, Tina Marie Crawford (both of Memphis); her grandchildren, Camille Newman and Tamara Carroll, both of North Carolina; and LaQuita Mull of Memphis, Tennessee; great-grandchildren, Jasmine Jefferson and Janerio Mull of Memphis, Tennessee; Mikayla Carroll and Myka Carroll and Joshua Newman, all of North Carolina; and great-grandson, Jazeria Mull; and one great-great-grandson, Trayvon “T. J.” both of Memphis, Tennessee.
