Obituary for Carolyn Porter
Carolyn W. Jackson Porter, 78, died October 16, 2021.

Mrs. Carolyn W. Jackson Porter, daughter of the late Mr. DeLester Williams and the late Mrs. Gladys Scruggs Williams, was born September 7, 1943, in Memphis, Tennessee. Carolyn passed on October 16, 2021, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford, Mississippi. She accepted Christ in her life at any early age and confirmed at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Memphis, Tennessee.
Carolyn completed her primary and secondary education at St. Augustine and Father Bertrand Catholic Schools. She attended Mount Mercy College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa where she graduated with honors. Her major at Mount Mercy was Spanish with a minor in English. Her advance study was done at Howard University in Washington, D.C., Memphis State University, and the American Institute of Banking.
Mrs. Porter’s career path is notable. After graduating from college, she was a Spanish teacher at Hamilton High School. Later she was a Senior Assistant Manger at First Tennessee National Bank and a lecturer for the Tennessee Banker’s Association. As a former Associate Editor of Mahogany Magazine of Memphis, she wrote a weekly column called “CAROL’S CORNER. In her spire time, Carolyn was a model for the Claude Green Modeling Agency and the Le Seur Models of Memphis.
She was an avid writer of poetry. Carol wrote a book of poems entitled Ramblings. . . My Thoughts on Things and Pieces. Prior to retirement, Carolyn was employed with the State of Tennessee, Department of Human Services in Memphis, Tennessee.
Carolyn leaves behind an aunt, Mrs. Ellen (R. C.) Hampton, of Memphis. Dr. Regina L. Bryant of Atlanta, GA whom she recognized as a goddaughter. She wanted Regina to handle all necessary arrangements on her behalf. She trusted her, loved her and admired her ability to insure that she would be taken care of. Her son, Jeffery Christopher and husband, the late Mr. Kenneth H. Porter preceded her in death; her brother, Mr. Clarence Williams of Memphis, three nieces, Kimberly M. Williams, Regina N. Williams, and Candance N. Williams, all of Memphis and a host of cousins and friends. Her family and friends deeply loved and respected her.
