Obituary for Beverly Mehrafza

Beverly Jean Mehrafza of Hernando, MS, lovingly known as "Maw-Maw," passed away peacefully on August 31st, 2024. Born in Memphis, TN, Beverly was a proud alumna of Humes High School and became a beloved pillar of her community, both as a successful business owner and as a matriarch whose love knew no bounds.

Beverly’s life was a testament to the beauty of simple joys—whether it was the thrill of a bingo game, the peaceful solitude of a fishing spot, the laughter shared around a campfire, the camaraderie of auction nights with her beloved husband of 47 years, or the excitement of cheering on Alabama football with a spirited “Roll Tide.” She was the embodiment of warmth and strength, a woman who moved through life with a rare blend of grace and unyielding resolve. Her presence was like a buttercup, delicate yet resilient; and her spirit, like the gentle warmth of a summer breeze; brought comfort and light to all who knew her.

She was the cherished wife of Latif Mehrafza and the devoted mother to Michael Bullock, Ronda Villatoro (Santos), Rodney Barber (Amanda), and Brandy Prince (Dewayne). As Maw-Maw, her love extended even further, embracing her nine grandchildren (Joshua, Layla, Shaun, Jonathan, Julianne, Kevin, Noah, Lanie, Lauren), thirteen great-grandchildren, and her dear niece and nephew with a heart that seemed to grow with each new addition to the family. Her love was constant, steady, and dependable, a haven of warmth and guidance.

Beverly was larger than life, a woman of immense strength, kindness, and an unwavering dependability that was the cornerstone of her family's foundation. Though her earthly journey has come to an end, her spirit will forever echo in the laughter of her loved ones, in the still reflection of an autumn lake, and in the enduring love that binds her family together.

She was preceded in death by her father, Walter Dirickson; her mother, Myra Dirickson; her brothers, Saul Belz and Tilford Flowers; and her sister, Debra Newsom.

As we lay her to rest, she will be lovingly carried by pallbearers: Shaun Barber, Kevin Barber, Santos Villatoro, Dewayne Prince, Wilfredo Guevara, Javier Guevara, Donald “Bubba” Newsom, Jr., and Jonathan Poe.
