Obituary for Avance Fallie
Avance Fallie was born February 8, 1926 to the late Avance Fallie, Sr. and Ethel Darling Fallie Rayford in Memphis, Tennessee.  He was preceded by his siblings; a brother, Frederick Fallie, and his sister, Lillian (Fallie) Wilson; as well as his nephew, Avance “Billy” (Alvada) Wilson, whom he helped raise.  He was baptized at an early age at Jackson Avenue Baptist Church (now Cummings Street Baptist Church), under the leadership of Rev. Varnado.  In 1942 he was inducted into the United States Navy.  Afterwards he worked at Lawson-Cavett Sporting Goods Company.  He accepted a Letter Carrier position with the United States Postal Service until his retirement in 1988.  On August 18, 1963 he married Emma Jean Bowers Fallie after 10 years of dating.  He was a member of the North American fishing Club, North American Hunting Club, the Bass Angler’s Sportsman Society, Handyman Club of America and Charter Member of the Creative Home Arts Club.  Avance departed January 16, 2014 and to cherish his memory are his son, Athal (Carla) Bowers; daughter, Jean Rae Bowers; cousin, Rev, Willie Bates; niece, Diane Fallie; and nephew, Frederick Fallie both of Everett, Mass.; grandchildren, Jeffrey (LaTarsha) Bowers, Jonathan (Tiffany) Bowers, Jennifer (Carlos) Bowers-Fearn, Daisy Bowers, Karlyn Bowers; 6 great grandchildren; and other family & friends.  Visitation will be Friday, January 24, 2014 at 9:00 a.m., with the service following at 10:30 a.m., all at Harold Ford Funeral Chapel. Burial in West Tennessee Veterans Cemetery.
